My First Year in America With Sons Steve (18 mo) and Eric (6 mo) 1959

This is a picture taken my first summer in America, with my two sons.  Steve is a year and a half, Eric six months old.  There is a funny story about this picture.  When I first entered the beach in Savannah, I was clad in the latest fashion crave in France, a two piece bikini, made famous by Brigitte Bardot; it was not a skimpy bikini, just a couple of inches below the waist, but I was rather curvacious.  I was promptly escorted out of the beach for being “indecent”.  The South was rather puritan in those days long ago.  I went to the store, bought a “decent” swimsuit, and promptly returned to the beach.  This is my first blog about discovering my new country.

Francine, I wonder if this e-mail will come through to you–I am just now trying this Facebook communication out. I’ve been in blissful ignorance. I love your website; it’s wonderfully put together. I see that your son is creative, also. I love the story about being taken off the beach! And the funny thing is that you still look curvaceous in the one piece bathing suit, so I think mostly they were upset with your figure!

Let me know if you receive this.

I look forward to reading more, Mary
